New House Speaker Springs Hope on Bingo Halls

The new House of Commons Speaker asked for the government to re-think the Bingo Tax on Britain’s Bingo Halls. The Speaker, John Bercow, is calling for a new look at the Bingo Hall Tax, which many of the halls suggest, would put them out of business. Players and halls have been calling for this re-do since the tax was first passed and put a financial bind on some bingo halls. The increase in tax from 15% to 22% was a huge hurt on many halls and in fact some have closed already as a result of this tax.

The MPs have been getting concentrated pressure from their bingo loving voters and from the owners of big Bingo operations like Mecca and others. They are also becoming worried about the obvious unfairness of the tax as it is only being put on bingo halls. Another concern is the fact that a number of halls have told them they are going to be forced to layoff employees to make ends meet. This mounting pressure will not go away easily as the bingo lovers are a huge number in the UK and this group thinks their love is being unfairly taxed.
People as a group do not like cupreous rules or what they feel are unfair policies by politicians. This tax policy has been put down by many as it seemed only single out bingo and no other gaming vehicle like sports books, casinos or racing. This was a big point with many people who did not like the perception that bingo was being picked upon but no other gaming situation. Another element that the pols did not think about was how bingo mad the UK public is compared with other countries. Needless to say it will be interesting to see how this all works out in the long run. If the House reverses the tax law and puts it back to where it previously resided, the bingo world in Britain will be cheering from the rooftops.
